Modern & Jazz

Modern Jazz at Silhouette

Modern levels class focuses on learning proper dance techniques such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. There are various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Street and Contemporary to help develop a well-rounded dancer.

Jazz is based on ballet techniques layered with traditional jazz movements. As students progress, classes build on more complicated combinations, footwork, turns, leaps and jumps. Jazz tech classes build a dynamic, entertaining movement quality in dancers, and the opportunity to improve artistry and style.

Becoming popular in the early 20th Century, Modern Jazz has both links to African and European traditions but was essentially born in the United States alongside a increase in popularity of jazz music in New Orleans.

Our classes are again based around the ISTD syllabus and take examinations in this more modern form of dance.
